Dunsmuir grad taught in Tanzania

Dunsmuir High School Class of 1998 graduate Jessica Bruck's dream of becoming a teacher has come true - although she did not expect her first teaching position to be in a small, isolated village in the East African nation of Tanzania. That's where Jessica found herself in 2002, courtesy of the U.S. Peace Corps, when the Tanzania Ministry of Education and Culture assigned her to a math teaching position in a government operated boarding school in southeastern Tanzania. She spoke about her three-year experience in Tanzania during last Wednesday morning's Dunsmuir Rotary Club breakfast meeting.

TODAY: Spring Fashion Do's And Don'ts

With so many new trends this spring, from patents to polka dots, it can be hard to coordinate it all. Alison Deyette of stylebakery.com explains the do's and don'ts of the latest looks.

Brights
Brights are a big trend this season. The "don't" look is fun, but a little too runway for real life. Swap some pieces for neutrals like black, so a single color pops, making a more wearable look.

Portland quarry to host Visa Card Rally

THE KCB Visa Card Rally will this year be staged entirely on the East African Portland Cement quarry farm, officials have said.

Rallye Sports Club (RSC) will organize the rally on April 21-22 with a new concept to hold prize giving in public after the last stretch at spectator stage.

According to the clerk of the course Dave Macharia, the rally is designed to be spectacular and spectator friendly with the spectator section being repeated thrice.

The idea is to run a compact and entertaining rally crisscrossing on one place so as to reduce recce costs with a paltry 20km of transport road section, Macharia noted.

Macharia who is also the chairman of the RSC said it will be exciting for spectators to have a glimpse of prize giving which has in the past been held at respective organisers club, far from the venue of the real action.

Gyrations will be on full display

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The media was told there would be no access to the Red Sox here Tuesday. No admittance to their simulated game and offday workout. No interview availability.

That didn't stop intrepid Japanese scribes and television crews. On a chilly morning they staked out the grassy knoll across from parking lots beyond the Royals' famous outfield waterfalls. And there, just a few feet in front of I-70 eastbound where trucks wheeled toward St. Louis, the cameras recorded Daisuke Matsuzaka throwing a few pitches from the Kauffman Stadium mound.

It has been this way since the Red Sox won the rights to the Japanese righthander with a record $51 million posting fee last winter. Since then, there's been Dice-K ice cream, Dice-K-tinis at the Ritz-Carlton, a Sports Illustrated baseball preview cover story, gyromania, and yesterday CNBC aired footage of a Matsuzaka Nike commercial that has been unveiled in Japan.
